CAMPAIGN POSTER

Poster for Student Council
10th Grade Student Council Speech
Good morning / afternoon everyone, my name is Nicolas Garcia
and I am running for Student Council Secretary.

Last year I stood here before you as I ran for Student Council Treasurer,
and central theme of my speech was about growth, the growth of the school
and how I wished to contribute to that growth.
This year I have been running my head off trying to make a central theme for this speech
and for days it's been bugging me because I had no idea what to talk about.
Then suddenly, it hit me. I was listening to the song "Don't Stop Believing" you know the song from Glee.
Anyways, it was originally written by Journey.
And there it was, my theme. I'm going to talk about the journey that is Everest.

This year is the first year we have a complete batch of students,
ranging from kindergarten all the way to the High School Seniors.
For the students here in 6th grade, and the freshmen of high school,
your journeys have only begun.
For the senior graduating batch of 2018, your journey is coming to a close.
But always remember that at the end of one journey, a new one always begins.

After being in council for the last two years, I have come to the realization
that my purpose for being an officer of the school
is to help guide all of you through your own journeys.
To join your expeditions,
to accompany you through your crusades,
to inspire you to dream,
and to support you in reaching your destinations.
This is my commitment. This is my journey.

Once again I am Nicolas Garcia, Vote for me for Student Council Secretary,
And don't stop believing.

THEATER FACES

Drama Masks: Melpomene + Thalia
The two masks are associated with ancient Greek drama with the smiling and frowning faces. They are the Comedy and Tragedy masks that were worn in ancient Greece during the golden age, around 500-300 BC, and are paired together to show the two extremes of the human psyche.
The Comedy mask is known as Thalia, who in Greek mythology is the Muse of Comedy and Idyllic Poetry, portrayed as a happy, cheerful young woman crowned with ivy.
The Tragedy mask is known as Melpomene, who si the Muse of Tragedy. Melpomene is depicted with the tragedy mask in one hand, and a knife or a club in the other.

The two masks are now used as the symbol for theater, in memory of its origins in ancient Greece.
